Walt Disney’s Donald Duck in Ancient Persia Original Art Cover Recreation
“Good Duck Artist”, Carl Bark’s classic cover for Dell Four Color # 275 from 1950 is the subject of this recreation. Dip pen, Brush, ink, and gouache on aged 13” x 18.5” Bristol board.
The original cover art is lost to time and the carelessness of the publishing industry in the mid 20th century (much original comic book art from this time was thrown out, lost or stolen as it was not thought to have much, if any value). So this recreation is the closet thing you’re likely to ever find to the original art.
As with all my other recreations this was drawn, inked and aged by hand with methods as close as possible to how the original was made including using vintage supplies and tools whenever available. The Incredible Hulk #1 Original Art Cover Recreation
The recreation features Jack Kirby (pencils) and Paul Reinman’s (inks) bold cover for The Incredible Hulk #1 from 1962. Roughly 13" x 19" on 2 ply plate finish Bristol board. The original Kirby cover art was destroyed when it was cut up for a Marvel print ad a few years after this issue hit the stands. I based my version on the highest grade example of this cover I could find along with early foreign reprints of this issue as well as the few existing early Marvel cover art pieces from this period to come up with the closest approximation of what the original art, board and editing notations would have looked like.
